According to the European Innovation Scoreboard 2023 prepared by the European Commission, the global innovation index in Catalonia is above the European Union average
Catalonia climbs the European innovation ranking and reaches the strong innovator category for the first time, according to the European Innovation Scoreboard 2023 prepared by the European Commission. In this way, the global innovation index in Catalonia is above the European Union average and no longer occupies the position of moderate innovator.
This report places Catalonia's global index in the field of innovation at 105.9 points, above the 98.9 points of the last edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard in 2021. That is, the indicator Catalonia's overall score is above the European Union average (100 points).
According to the document, the European Commission particularly highlights the level of sales of innovative products by Catalan SMEs with respect to their total turnover, employment in ICT services and continuous training throughout working time. Catalonia is also above the EU average in areas such as trademark applications, scientific publications, the population with tertiary education, people with digital skills and employment in knowledge-intensive activities.
THE COMMITMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION
From the Association, we celebrate and are proud that Catalonia has climbed this ranking. 22@Network Barcelona works every day to promote innovation in the 22@ district and, in general, in the city of Barcelona. The ecosystem continues to grow day by day and our responsibility is to make it possible and continue to foster the communication network between all the companies and agents in the district.
Administrations, universities and technology transfer centers have contributed to ensure that Catalonia has been able to climb this important ranking for measuring innovation at European level.
Precisely for this reason, from 22@Network Barcelona we send surveys to evaluate the current performance of the companies in the 22@ district. In addition, this initiative aims to measure the impact of the 22@Network Barcelona activity in the city of Barcelona.
According to the report "Barometer of innovation and digital and green transformation in Catalonia", prepared by the Generalitat de Catalunya in collaboration with ACCIÓ, in 2022, 35% of Catalan companies have invested in digital transformation of their systems. This represents an increase of 10 percentage points over last year.
It should also be noted that during the year 2022, 56.4% of companies in Catalonia carried out innovative activities, with an increase of approximately 6 percentage points compared to 2021. From the association we have proposed to analyze in more detail the innovation practices in the 22@ district, recognized as a technological and innovative hub in Catalonia.
