For example: imagine a company that manufactures cotton fabrics for school gowns and similar products. Every day, when they start the looms, there are always a few meters that must be discarded because they contain some imperfection that does not meet their quality standards. But it is a perfect piece of tissue to make some crafts, for example!
On the other hand, there is a school that will buy carnival costume from a tissue store. Wouldn't it be great if this school could access the tissue remains of the company that throws them away?
It is with this objective that Scrap Store 22@ is born, to create in Barcelona 22@ a meeting point between "donors" and "takers" and thus be able to take advantage of the leftover resources of the companies. A space where we can show, exchange, reuse those materials that our companies throw away and that can be reused for our schools, reintegration companies, designers... A space to visualize and put into practice the circular economy in our city.
The circular economy implies a change in production and consumption, in order to keep products, components and materials at maximum utility and value at all times, turning our economic activity into repair and regenerative by design: design to eliminate waste and pollution, to keep products in use and to regenerate natural systems.
A "Scrap Store" is an excellent way to involve and train conscious and co-responsible consumers of this economic model change that we need to implement. It is an excellent way to output a series of reusable materials identified in the various projects of INDUSTRIAL SIMBIOSIS throughout Catalonia.
There are countries with a long tradition in this type of initiatives. The United Kingdom, for example, has a network of 50 "Scraps Stores" some of which for 40 years. It is never too late to start. Do you join us?
