Discovering innovation and sustainability in 22@: A tour of the district's future

Secretaria Tècnica,

On June 12, as part of the 22@ INNOVATION DAY, we had the opportunity to explore two fascinating routes through the 22@ district: the Innovation Route and the Sustainability Route. These visits allowed participants to discover the most emblematic spaces of the 22@, learn about their stories of transformation and understand how this district has become a benchmark in technological innovation and sustainable development.

Innovation Route

Led by Àurea Rodríguez, from Eurecat, this route showed how the 22@ is a living ecosystem of innovation. Participants visited three key spaces:

  • Social Education Laboratory of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC): A space dedicated to research in inclusive education, public policies and support for professionals in the social and educational sector. Here, new methodologies are explored to improve training and social inclusion.
  • New Virtual Studio of the Lavinia Group: A cutting-edge infrastructure for immersive audiovisual creation, with high-resolution LED technology, tracking systems and a comprehensive approach to production. An example of how 22@ drives digital creativity.
  • SuaraLab (Suara Cooperativa): Suara's social innovation laboratory, where innovative solutions for care, well-being and inclusion are developed. A space that demonstrates how technology and innovation can improve people's quality of life.

Sustainability Route

Under the guidance of Luis Jaime de Antonio, president of the Sustainability and Business Commission and Managing Director of Hines Spain, this itinerary highlighted the most sustainable spaces in the district:

  • Media-TIC: An emblematic building of sustainable architecture, which functions as a hub for ICT companies. Its innovative and efficient structure makes it a model of eco-friendly design.
  • The first Superblock of 22@: An urban oasis that exemplifies Barcelona's commitment to sustainable mobility and green spaces. A place where the city is transformed for its citizens.
  • Districlima: A pioneering heating and cooling system that connects more than 180 buildings, offering an efficient and sustainable energy solution for the entire area.
  • Campus Poblenou (Universitat Pompeu Fabra): An academic space that combines industrial history (with buildings such as La Nau and La Fàbrica) with modern education in communication, engineering and design.
  • Disseny Hub Barcelona: A reference center for creativity and innovation in design, where professionals and entrepreneurs meet to promote new ideas.
  • Torre Glòries: A symbol of Barcelona with its dynamic facade of more than 60,000 glass panels that change color. An example of intelligent and sustainable architecture.

We would like to thank all the entities and professionals who opened their doors and shared their knowledge. These routes have been an exceptional example of how 22@ continues to lead innovation and sustainability in Barcelona.
