FAD FORUM, INTEL·LIGÈNCIA ARTIFICIAL, ARTS I DISSENY

Secretaria Tècnica,

AI has become a very familiar term, found in almost all spheres of human activity, impacting on our lives and on the fundamental rights and values of societies around the world. In one way or another, intelligent systems classify, program, plan, predict and play a relevant role in the products, systems, services and experiences created by professionals from the world of design, art, architecture, etc.

What does the future hold for AI in design, art and architecture? How are these creative professions changing and how will they change in the new creation paradigm based on data and algorithms?

This year’s FAD Forum will be organized around a session of talks and masterclasses where professionals from the world of design, art and architecture, led by major pioneering names in AI from today’s creative scene, can discover which are the opportunities, virtues and dangers derived from it.

PROGRAM:

Conferences
From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Face-to-face and live streaming.
Language: Spanish or English (depending on the speaker’s language)

Masterclasses

“AI and multi-modality: generating language, code and art”

The new artificial intelligence systems are changing the way we create content. They generate language, code and art automatically, making training in the major models more efficient and effective. How are these new systems changing the way we create content? What impact will they have in the future?

9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.: Conference

“Designing between human and artificial intelligence”

This presentation will cover the new advances in design software tools that that leverage computational intelligence. It will showcase how these capabilities industry leaders solve today’s most technical and creative challenges. It will also discuss topics such as collaboration between humans and machines and design for sustainability.

10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.: Conference

“Art and artificial intelligence”

The experience Onkaos has acquired in pioneering works in the use of AI, such as Appropriate Response (2020) by Mario Klingemann or Botto (2021), an artist created through artificial intelligence, tokenized and decentralized, that is to say, governed by a community of thousands of people. Its work, which is auctioned off each week and has sold in excess of two million dollars, is the aesthetic result of the learning acquired by artificial intelligence from the collective decisions taken by the community of participants. A session focusing on artistic experimentation with artificial intelligence and on the challenges and opportunities for artists, collectors and the art market.

0:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.: Coffe Break

11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.: Conference

“À-la-carte fashion thanks to AI”

The impact of artificial intelligence on the fashion industry’s value chain, essentially in optimizing production and in customizing experiences.

“Uses in artificial intelligence audiovisuals”

Artificial intelligence in the field of audiovisual communication by generating images and visual experiences through this technology. Col·lectiu Estampa will discuss the creation processes and tools used in carrying out some dissemination projects made with these technologies as well as the possibilities in terms of creation and production.

12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.: Conference

“Tectonism: high-performance forms for architecture, online and on earth”

Architecture, like video games, films and music, is a cultural production enabled by technology, but not the direct result of it. In other words, we use technological tools to realize culturally and socially attractive ideas. This is something that the professionals from the gaming and film industries have long understood; we need to understand it in the sphere of architecture. The session will discuss the implications of artificial intelligence in this discipline through projects in which ZHA has used AI for architecture analysis and planning.

12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.: Conference

“Alternative intelligence”

Not everything imaginable can be realized, but nothing can be realized without imagining it first. Hence the importance of the forms of fiction we propose, for in them resides the seed of a potential reality. And if we have to imagine the future of artificial intelligence, fiction is probably the first place in which to start thinking about hypotheses.

1:15 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Network vermouth

4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Masterclass

“Artists and intelligent algorithms defy the limits of photography”

The advances made in artificial intelligence techniques in the sphere of categorizing and creating synthetic images can generate suspicion but also admiration for the extraordinary technical challenge they represent. The strategies of computation sciences must be enhanced to achieve this unprecedented creative challenge. Despite questioning the role of the artist, they are also a great opportunity for pushing the limits of art. In this masterclass we will discover the possibilities that computer vision and artificial creativity place within the reach of artists.

“Artificial intelligence, design and power”

To what extent do current design methodologies allow us to design a democratic AI? Which tools do we as designers have for mitigating the risks of these systems? This masterclass will introduce us to the technical and conceptual foundations of artificial intelligence. We will review the opportunities and risks of automated systems and reflect on the power relations established in systems based on artificial intelligence.

“Clustering Data: from data visualization to digital fabrication”

The emergence of artificial intelligence tools enables us to delegate decision-taking to these algorithms at different stages of the design process. We need to make a detailed study of the results of its application and validate methodologies. In this masterclass we will explore the potential of clustering algorithms in different scales of architectural design, from data visualization to territorial scale to the detail of digital fabrication.
